After returning from PA, we had a very quiet week last week. Genevieve and I hung out at home a lot and relaxed, so that she could recuperate from the week, and gear up for the coming weekend and for this week. This past weekend was another busy one for us. We packed up and left on Saturday for Mike's parents' house. They live a little over an hour away from us. When we got there, we spent time with a friend who had just moved back after living in Hawaii for a few years, and her four year old son. Later that evening, we left Genevieve napping with Grammie and Grampie while Mike and I went in search of an umbrella stroller for her. We desperately need it for traveling, because her regular stroller takes up the whole trunk. It was nice to be out and about, just the two of us, even though our time out still focused on her. :o)
A couple new things happened with Genevieve on Saturday. First of all, she got her first tooth! It was such a surprise to us! Which is a good thing. I hope all of her teeth come in with no problem, because this one did not seem to bother her one bit. I noticed a white spot on her gums on Friday, and out came the tooth on Saturday. It's not as fun anymore to let her chew on our fingers. Also, she started babbling on Saturday and making "da-da" sounds. Of course, she's not trying to say "da-da", it's just the one sound she can get out right now. And she does it over and over and over. It's very cute. We look forward to hearing more sounds, as she finds her voice and learns how to talk!
On Sunday we visited a church. And because of her new-found voice, it is not so easy to stay in the service with her. I took her to the nursery and stayed with her. There was a ten month old baby there, and we put both girls on the floor together with a bunch of toys and let them play. It was so fun to watch her interact with another baby! They kept stealing each others' toys. They also liked to touch each other. She had a great time playing. After church we went to Auntie's house (Mike's Aunt) and saw a lot of family, some new to her, and swam in her pool!
Genevieve had a great time playing with everyone. There was another little girl there, Ava, who is two years old. She thought Ava was so funny. Ava was dancing around and doing silly things, and Genevieve just laughed and laughed at her. And let me tell you, this girl does not laugh very easily. Trust me. I try to get her to.
Yesterday, of course, was Genevieve's first Fourth of July! Having a child makes me appreciate that holiday even more so, as I think about how wonderful it is that she was born in a free country. She is so blessed to be an American child. We celebrated by going to Hampton Beach in New Hampshire with Grammie and Grampie, and then to a parade. She had a long, exhausting day. We didn't put her in the water at the beach because, well, I don't even like going in that water. It is freezing! We put her little toes in and right away she started whimpering. But she enjoyed playing in her beach tent and checking everything out. Here are some pictures from our day:
Playing in her beach tent. She loved it!
We got her sunglasses on the boardwalk.
My favorite picture from the day.
This one is kind of hard to see, but it's her little footprint in the sand.
At the parade and VERY tired.
Very interested in what is going on.
This coming weekend will be her first camping trip. Can't wait to write about that one. Love you all!
