Well, this week started off a bit sad and exciting at the same time. On Sunday, Uncle Leroy and Aunt Karen came and spent time with little Genevieve before they had to hit the road, which meant Grandma was leaving, too. Grandma was such a big help and wonderful to have around for the week. It was sad to say goodbye to her, as well as Uncle Leroy and Aunt Karen. She's going to be so much bigger the next time they see her! Modern technology is a blessing, though, as they'll be able to see her often through videophone, Facebook, etc.
We didn't have time to sit around being sad, though, because as they were leaving, Uncle Jonathan, Grammie, and Grampie came to visit. This was SO exciting because Genevieve was meeting Grampie for the first time ever! He loves his little granddaughter. I don't know who she will have more wrapped around their finger, Daddy or Grampie. They stayed for the afternoon and Grammie and Grampie just loved cuddling with Genevieve.
Monday morning came, and I was not looking forward to this day. Daddy had to go back to work. This was hard because, number one, we were going to miss him being around all day. Number two, I was scared to death of being alone with Genevieve all day for the first time! Quite an adventure I was about to embark upon.
The day went well, though. Genevieve and I came out on the other side, still alive and kicking. Someone from the church came that afternoon to visit and dote upon the little one, and I was glad for the company! Being alone all day with a newborn can be busy, yet so quiet at the same time. This, I learned, was going to be the trend for the rest of the week. Snowstorms kept visitors from coming on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Mommy tried hard to find things to do while Genevieve slept. She likes to do that.
Thursday was a bit busier as Genevieve was fussy all morning. It's hard to figure out what I could have eaten that would bother her. It's going to be trial and error, I guess. Thankfully, she sleeps very well at night. No matter how much she is up or asleep during the day, I can count on feeding her, putting her in her Swaddleme blanket, and rocking her to sleep. The rest of the night when she wakes up, she eats, gets a diaper change, and goes right back to sleep. I am grateful for that! This guarantees at least one and a half hours of sleep at a time for me. :o)
On Friday, Genevieve had her two week check up with the doctor. She is doing so well and is healthy and strong. She gained one pound, four ounces in one week and two days. Now she weighs nine pounds, twelve ounces. She is growing so fast! Being a good eater definitely helps in this department. I was glad to get out of the house for the first time in a week and glad to put on a pair of jeans and drive a car, both for the first time in two weeks! A friend of mine came along, as I was nervous about going out with her alone for the first time.
Today she has been with us for two weeks. She is growing so fast and we are savoring every moment. Especially when she sleeps. :o) We've heard that doesn't last long. Can't wait for the coming weeks when we get more used to things and she starts to become more interactive.
