Week three started out with a bang as we ventured to church as a family for the first time last Sunday. Genevieve did really well! She slept through worship, ate a little during the sermon, and slept the rest of the time. She is already so popular with the other kids at church...
Haha! They were completely taken aback by her. It's because she's so beautiful. She even made it into the nursery's newsletter! They are looking forward to having her back there and I am looking forward to getting back to KIDS Church! Not sure when that will happen, though. Hopefully soon.
After church, Auntie Siobhan, Uncle Jonathan, and cousin Sean came to visit. Sean had a lot of fun running around and playing with Jonathan and Uncle Mikey. Auntie Siobhan loved holding Genevieve and remembering how to "bounce" a baby. Sean loves hugging and cuddling with his new cousin.
After they left, we went back to church for our youth service. She screamed and cried while I lead worship. Then I fed her and she was happy again. It doesn't take much. We went back home and had a blast at the Superbowl party. Well, she slept the whole time. She missed all the funny commercials. I think she was worn out from the day. So was I.
At the beginning of the week, the rest of her umbilical cord fell off. We have a belly button! On Wednesday, I got brave and took her out by myself for the first time. We went to the school I taught at and had lunch. The other teachers just loved holding her. She got passed around a bunch. How did she do with that, you might ask? Oh, she slept the whole time. Surprise, surprise. I, however, loved being with other human beings again and will probably make having lunch at school a weekly event. Afterwards we went to Walmart. One of the kids from church said to Genevieve, "You're going to love Walmart. There are lots of bright lights there!" This is because G loves to stare at lights. I guess that's a baby thing. She did well there, too, and I learned that it's not so difficult getting out with a baby after all. Gives me more confidence to escape the confines of our house more often.
On Thursday, we needed to do some grocery shopping. We originally planned on going as a family, but Genevieve was very fussy all day and I was tired. So, to give me a break, Mike took her and went to the store (just the two of them) when he got home from work. I enjoyed some time to myself. She did great being out with him. He loves parading her around. He's a proud daddy.
Today, on Genevieve's three week birthday, we got up early and headed to church for our annual Valentine's breakfast. This is where the men cook breakfast for the ladies of the church. She wore a cute, festive outfit and enjoyed hanging out with all of us women. She was really good and enjoyed looking around, checking everything out. She's so curious. We came home and the three of us took a little nap.
Then, Mike's old boss, Keith, came over to meet Genevieve. She enjoyed hanging out with him for a while. After he left, Grammie and Grampie came over. Mike and I ate dinner real quick, I fed her, and then we left her with them while we went on a mini-date. Our first time alone together, without the baby, in three weeks! We are well aware that we need to make that priority. We couldn't go too far, though, as I am her food source and when she gets hungry, and I am not there, she gets MAD. We ran to Friendly's and got some ice cream. We tried not to talk about the baby, but I think when you become parents, even when you try to have a "kid-free" evening, you still end up talking about the kids! We learned that tonight! We came home to find her happy and content in Grammie's arms.
Before they left, Grammie helped us give Genevieve her very first real bath. I was so nervous! I don't know why. I think I was worried she would get too cold or something. Anyway, G loved it so much. I expected screaming and crying, but she was so content and just enjoyed getting washed up. I'm convinced it's because she loves to be naked.

She looks so clean!
