One Month Old

Today, Genevieve is one month old.  It's funny because it's hard to believe that one month has already passed by, but it also feels like she has been around much longer than this.  She has grown a ton and has discovered one of life's joys - smiling!  She has a beautiful, toothless smile.  Love those gums.

Last Sunday she wore her first little dress to church.  A cute, pink one, of course.  She had silver shoes to go with it, but they don't quite fit her yet.  As you can see, she doesn't quite fill in her tights, yet, either.

On Monday, Genevieve celebrated her first holiday - Valentine's Day!  A good one to start out with.  She got her first Valentines from us and from Grandma and Pop-Pop!  That was a busy day for us.  So, we put her in a cute outfit that had hearts on it, in honor of the day, and headed out the door.

First, we headed out to Mike's old work to visit friends there and show her off.  People loved meeting her.  After that, we went to Red Robin for a Valentine's date.  She slept the whole time, thank goodness!  We enjoyed our burgers in peace.

In the afternoon, Mike had his interview for ordination.  Our friends at the district office were excited to get some time with her.  I was worried about her disrupting the interview, but she did well, due to the fact that I rocked her in her car seat the whole time.  I don't know what moms did back when there were no car seats, swings, pacifiers, etc.  I can't even comprehend it!

The district superintendent treated us to a meal at a Chinese restaurant after the interview.  We appreciated it, but this made our day even longer.  It's exhausting to lug a baby around all day, everywhere you go.

Well, Tuesday was not as pleasant.  It was probably a combination of the chocolate and the Chinese food that I ate on Monday.  And possibly the dairy.  The jury's still out on that one.  She was not a happy camper.  She cried and fussed all day long.  Not fun for me.  I couldn't wait for Mike to get home from work so he could take her and I could get a break.  I don't know how single moms do it - kudos to them!

The rest of the week was not as bad as Tuesday, but still challenging.  She cries and fusses off and on.  What's difficult is figuring out if she's just colicky or if it is something I am eating.  I am going to try going without dairy for a while to see if that helps.

On Saturday we went to a baby shower.  There were two-week old twins there, a three-week old baby boy, and four-week old Genevieve.  She towered over all of them!  I kept looking at the baby boy thinking how tiny he looked, and he ended up being the weight that Genevieve was when she was born!  It made me realize how much she really has grown already!  We had her in a warm snowsuit that night that we had put her in the first time that we took her to the doctor.  Look how much better she fills it out!

This past Sunday, Mike was preaching at church.  Because of that, I felt it necessary for Genevieve to be dressed up.  The pastor's kid should always looks nice, right?  This is a beautiful dress that Auntie Siobhan got for her and ballet shoes from one of our youth.

Last night we went to a benefit for a friend of Mike's.  We had to cut out a little early because she woke up and she was NOT happy.  We started our drive home and quickly discovered how much more we dislike red lights.  She was quiet when the car was moving, but every time we stopped, she started screaming!  Thankfully we got on the highway quickly and she slept during the rest of the drive, which was about an hour.  I don't know what we would have done if she cried during that whole drive!

Needless to say, it has been quite a month!  Genevieve has grown tremendously and Mike and I are settling more and more into our roles as parents.  We can't wait to see how much more she grows each month, yet at the same time, I miss the little, tiny baby we had at the hospital!
